Packing your hospital bag in Denmark
Here is a list of items I included in my bag for my hospital birth (in no particular order) :
Yoga mat - if you want to be on your all fours or kneel and lean on the hospital bed, it’s a lot more comfortable that having your knees on the hard floor and safer for baby if you give birth in that position
Earplugs and eye mask - for during and after birth. During birth if youb want to be in your bubble or rest, after birth if you are sensitive to light and sounds to sleep (in case of a snoring partner fx). Where I gave birth the blinds let all the lights through, so I really appreciated enjoying the few hours of sleep I had in the dark
A comb - to squeeze during contractions and divert the pain
A rebozo - for your partner to massage your pelvis whilst helping baby down
Red light - can come in handy to create a cozy atmosphere during birth and to see during the night if you have to go to the bathroom / feed baby etc
Loudspeaker - if you want to play some music
Headphones - if you want to listen to your music privately. Can also be used in case of a C-section
Essential oil diffuser
Your favourite snacks and drinks - you are allowed to eat and drink during labour. In fact, it is highly recommended to do so
Breastfeeding pillow - the rooms don’t all have chairs / breastfeeding chairs, I had to breastfeed exclusively in bed, so any comfort you can bring from home will be welcome !
Birkenstock type shoes - if you want to walk around in the room / hospital without needing to get down
Baby items : diapers, clothes, pacifiers, wet wipes, Olivy type w
Breast pump with the correct flange size, or at least a flange insert - hospitals only provide flanges size 21mm or 24mm, which is way too big
Hair scrunchy
Hygien items : toothbrush, soap etc
Colostrum syringes - if you have some the hospital will be able to store them in their freezer
Your printed birth plan
Water bottle with a straw
Medicinal honey in case your nipples crack - it’s a lot more efficient than lanolin
Lanolin - to prevent nipple cracks and can be used on dry lips
Have your partner make his/her own bag too - he/she needs to be comfortable to be able to take good care of you
